Let’s prepare for our beach adventure! Match the items with the right ideas to learn how we can keep the sea safe and clean.
The morning sky glowed with shades of pink and orange. Eli and I decided to visit the beach. Waves crashed rhythmically against the shore, and seagulls circled overhead, calling out to one another. The air smelled of salt and adventure.
I said, my voice full of excitement, “We’re going to build the biggest sandcastle and splash in the waves!” Eli, perched on my shoulder, nodded enthusiastically. “Let’s make this the best beach day ever!”
As we walked along the shore, something stopped us in our tracks. Plastic bottles, wrappers, and tangled fishing nets were scattered across the sand. The once-pristine beach looked like a dumping ground. “Eli, look at this mess!” I said, horrified. Eli frowned, her wings drooping. She said, “The beach should be beautiful, not covered in trash. This is heartbreaking.”
Just then, a familiar figure appeared, coming toward us. It was Professor Poki, a quirky scientist known for his odd gadgets and unpredictable ideas. His mismatched socks peeked out from under his sandals, and his wild hair seemed to defy gravity. His overstuffed backpack spilt gadgets, snacks, and even a rubber chicken as he walked.
I asked, pointing to the mess, “Professor Poki, what’s going on? Why is the beach covered in trash?” The professor adjusted his tape-repaired glasses. “Ah, Riri and Eli! This is the sad result of careless behaviour. Some people think the beach is one giant trash can! But this trash isn’t just ugly—it’s dangerous. It pollutes the water, harms wildlife, and ruins the ecosystem.”
As Professor Poki explained, he tripped over a hidden seashell and fell flat onto the sand. To our shock, he landed next to a small sea turtle tangled in a plastic bag.
“What is this!” he exclaimed, fumbling with his backpack. He pulled out a giant lollipop by mistake, then finally found a pair of scissors. Carefully, he cut the plastic away. The turtle swam off slowly, its movements weak but free.
Eli said, her voice heavy with concern, “That’s one small rescue, but what about the rest of the beach?” Professor Poki nodded solemnly. “You’re right, Eli. If we leave it like this, more animals will suffer. But cleaning this beach won’t be easy. It’s a huge task.”
I hesitated, “It feels impossible. How can the three of us fix this mess?” Professor Poki’s face lit up with determination. “With teamwork and a little creativity, we can start making a difference!”
Professor Poki searched through his backpack, pulling out gloves, trash bags, and even a toy dinosaur that let out a loud roar. “Oops, wrong gadget!” he laughed, tossing it aside. We each grabbed a bag and got to work. As we picked up litter, Professor Poki kept our spirits high with silly songs and jokes. “What did the banana peel say when it slipped? ‘This is my big break!’”
We found plastic bottles, tangled nets, candy wrappers, and even an old shoe. The professor pretended the shoe was a phone and said, “Hello, clean beach hotline!” His antics made the hard work fun. As we worked, other beachgoers noticed. Some joined us, bringing their own bags and gloves. Slowly, the piles of trash disappeared, revealing smooth sand and sparkling water.
After hours of effort, we stepped back to admire our work. The beach looked beautiful again, its natural charm restored. I turned to Professor Poki, and asked “Why is it so important to keep beaches clean?”
He scratched his head, causing his wild hair to squeak like rubber. “Riri, clean beaches aren’t just pretty. They’re safe for animals and people. Trash in the water can poison fish and turtles. Plastic bags can suffocate marine life. And no one wants to swim with garbage!”
Eli added, “Keeping the beach clean isn’t just for today. It’s about protecting the future. If we take care of nature, it will take care of us.” I nodded, thinking about the tiny turtle we had saved. “So, every little action matters. If we all do our part, we can make a big difference.”
Eli smiled. “We did it, Riri! The beach is clean, and we even saved a turtle!” Professor Poki balanced a beach ball on his head like a hat. “Remember, kids, a clean beach is a happy beach! Always pick up trash and remind others to do the same. Together, we can keep the planet beautiful.”
