Before we jump into the story, let’s warm up with a few fun questions. Read the questions and answer.
The wind was playing with Eli’s feathers while we stood in the grassy field behind the farmhouse. Eli had her eyes on the sky, waiting for the sunset.
I tilted my head and asked, “Eli, why does the sun go away?”
Then Eli said, “Let’s do a project to learn about the planets and time differences,” and I got super excited. I love projects! I ran into the farmhouse and came back with a globe and a flashlight. “Here! This can be Earth!”
I held up the globe proudly. Eli flapped her wings happily. “And the flashlight will be the sun.” I switched on the flashlight and aimed it at the globe. “Look! This side is bright.”
She said, “It takes 24 hours for it to make one full turn. That’s what gives us one day.” I stared at the slow-moving globe. “Okay, but if the sun is shining on this side, why do other places have a different time?”
Eli ruffled her feathers and gave me a soft nudge, “Anytime, Riri. Learning is an adventure.” With the first stars twinkling above us, I felt ready for whatever new adventure tomorrow would bring.
