Eli and I arrived at Professor Poki’s lab. We were eager to see what new gadgets and devices he had been working on. Professor Poki’s lab was filled with quirky inventions and colourful machines. Shelves lined with books and tools covered the walls. The hum of machines and the glow of screens made the lab feel alive.

“Eli, look at this place! It’s a science wonderland!” I said, my voice echoing in the bustling room. Eli smiled, “Professor Poki always surprises us with something new. Let’s find out what he’s working on today.” We found Professor Poki adjusting something on his tablet, wearing his usual mismatched socks and a lab coat with too many pockets. His glasses, taped at the corners, kept slipping down his nose.

He said, grinning, “Ah, Riri and Eli! So glad you’re here. Today, I want to show you how technology can make life easier.” As he said this, a small gadget fell out of one of his many pockets, clattering to the floor. He chuckled, “Oops, too many gadgets!”

Just then, the sky darkened, and thunder rumbled outside. “Looks like a storm is coming,” Eli said, her voice tinged with worry. Moments later, the lights flickered and went out. “Oh no, the power’s out!” I exclaimed.

Eli checked her phone but frowned. “No signal. We can’t even call for help!” Professor Poki’s hair seemed to puff up even more in the dim light. He said, “Perfect timing! This is a great chance to see how technology can help us in emergencies!”

He led us to a corner of the lab filled with gadgets. “First, light!” he said, pulling a rechargeable lantern from his coat. He accidentally switched it to strobe mode, making the lab look like a disco. “Oops! Wrong button,” he laughed, finally switching it to a steady glow. “Wow, that’s amazing!” I exclaimed.

The lantern illuminated the room, making us feel safer. But the wind howled louder, and the rain pounded against the windows. “What if the storm lasts for a long time? We need more than just light,” Eli said. Professor Poki pointed to a sleek refrigerator, dramatically waving his hand like a game show host. “This fridge has a backup battery. It can keep food cold even during a power outage. Let’s check if it’s working.”

He opened the fridge, revealing a single leftover pizza slice. “Aha! The essentials!” he joked. The cool air confirmed it was still running. I asked, “But what about staying connected? How will we know when the storm is over?” Professor Poki pulled a mobile hotspot from his coat, nearly dropping it.

“This device uses cellular data to keep us online. Even without regular power, we can access the internet for updates and stay in touch with others.” Eli and I tried connecting our devices. The hotspot worked, and we could check the weather updates and other news.

Just as we felt relieved, a loud crash came from outside. A tree had fallen, blocking the road. “We’re trapped!” I said, panic creeping into my voice. I cried, “How will we get help now?” Professor Poki, undeterred, pulled out a GPS tracker with a flourish, “Fear not! We can alert emergency services with this GPS tracker. It sends our location, even in remote areas.”

He accidentally dropped it, but quickly picked it up, laughing. Eli pressed the button, and moments later, we received a message confirming that help was on the way.

While waiting for help, Professor Poki continued talking to us. “Technology saves us time and energy, allowing us to focus on other important things. But it’s also crucial in emergencies like this.” He fiddled with a robot vacuum, accidentally setting it off. It zoomed around, bumping into his legs. “Whoa! Careful there, buddy!” he laughed.

The robot vacuum whirred to life, cleaning up the small debris inside the lab. The smart oven preheated with a tap on the tablet, and Professor Poki waved his hands like a conductor. We were amazed at how much easier these devices made everyday tasks.

Help arrived quickly, thanks to the GPS tracker. The fallen tree was cleared, and the power was restored. I smiled, feeling grateful. “Thank you, Professor Poki. I never realised technology could actually make such a big difference.” Eli nodded in agreement. “Yes, and it’s important to use the technology wisely and responsibly.”

Professor Poki, now balancing a stack of books precariously, adjusted his glasses. “Exactly. Technology is a tool that, when used properly, can greatly enhance our lives and help us in difficult situations.” He tripped but caught himself, grinning. “And it keeps life exciting!”
