On a bright, crisp morning, Eli and I arrived at Mountain Camp, where inventors gathered to solve significant challenges. The camp was filled with wooden cabins, strange machines humming quietly, and towering pine streets. At the centre stood the Invention Tower, a tall structure that seemed to touch the sky.
Professor Poki greeted us at the camp gate. “Welcome to the Mountain Inventor Challenge!” he exclaimed, pointing toward the tower. “Today, you’ll face a special test. We’ll climb to the top of the tower, but there’s a twist. You’ll need to invent something to help us along the way!”
We followed Poki to the tower’s base, where the path was steep and covered with rocky steps. “Inventors share important traits,” Poki explained as we climbed. “They’re curious, creative, and persistent. You’ll need all three to complete today’s challenge!” Eli hopped along the trail and chirped, “What’s the challenge?” Poki grinned and said, “The last part of the climb is too steep for us to walk up. We need to invent a way to get there!”
At the next platform, Poki led us to a table with supplies: ropes, pulleys, wooden planks, and wheels. “These materials are all you have,” he said. “Invent something that can carry us up the final stretch.” I looked at the steep incline ahead and frowned. “That looks impossible,” I said. “How do inventors come up with ideas?” Poki winked. “An inventor’s secret weapon is the question, ‘What if?’ and also not giving up”.” Eli flapped her wings and chirped, “Let’s get started and let’s invent, then!”
I thought for a moment. “What if we build a pulley system to lift us up?” I suggested. Poki nodded approvingly. “Great idea! Let’s build a prototype.” We worked together, tying ropes to a large wooden plank to act as a seat. Using the pulleys, we connected the rope to a wheel at the top of the slope. Eli chirped excitedly, “It looks ready! Let’s test it.”
Poki sat on the plank as I and Eli pulled the rope, but halfway up, the pulley creaked and the plank wobbled dangerously. “It’s too unstable!” Eli said, panicking. Poki laughed as he climbed off safely. “Every inventor faces challenges,” he said. “What do we do now?” Eli fluttered, “We don’t give up!
Eli examined the system and noticed the pulley was too loose. “We need something to hold the rope steady,” she said. Poki handed us a small wooden block. “This should help!” With steady hands, I tightened the pulley and reinforced the seat with extra ropes. We tested it again, and this time, the pulley system worked smoothly. The plank climbed steadily up the slope, carrying Poki to the top. “It’s working!” I cheered. Eli fluttered with excitement. “We did it!”
At the top of the Invention Tower, Poki looks proud. “You’ve shown all the traits of a great inventor: curiosity, creativity, and persistence.” I grinned as I looked at the view below. “This was so much fun! I want to invent more things to solve problems.” Poki nodded.
“The world is full of challenges waiting for solutions. You just need to ask, ‘What if?’ and keep going.” Eli and I felt inspired by the adventure as we packed up our tools. The Mountain Inventor Challenge had just begun.
Let’s see how much you remember about inventor!
