We were walking along the mountain when Eli asked: “Do you hear that?” She grabbed my hands.
She told me to follow her to the bottom of the valley. There was a river flowing there.
Then, Eli asked, “Riri, did you know water never stays in one place? It travels around a lot. It goes to different places”.
I was surprised. I said, “I didn’t know that Eli. Where does the water come from? And where does the water go?”
Eli chirped and said, “First rain drops fall on the ground.
And, they are absorbed.
Then, the droplets come together at the bottom of the valley.
It makes a river like this one.
The water flows to the river mouth.”I giggled, “Does the river have a mouth?”
There it dumps all the drops of water.
They can flow into a larger river, a lake, or an ocean.”
I still didn’t understand. I asked, “But where do the drops come from?”.
Eli explained, “During its long journeys across the planet’s surface, the water evaporates.
So, in the form of vapour, small drops rise. They make the clouds”
I started to get it, “The clouds! Aha, where the rain comes from.”
Eli smiled, “Yes when the clouds are heavy with drops, it rains again. So, the drops begin another journey!”
